Add a Custom Link to your Header
First up, log into your main WordPress Dashboard:
- Hover on “Appearance” and click on “Menus”
- If you have more than one Menu available on this website, please use the dropdown to select the one you need to edit. Otherwise, to start from scratch and create a new Header menu!
Towards the left you have 4 different choices to bring into the Menu,
- Posts,
- Pages,
- Custom Links
- and Categories.
We need to clink the arrow on “Custom Links” which will open up that section for the details. Then simply
- Copy & paste, or type in the full URL link (http://www.website.com).
- Enter the Name you want details in the Header Menu.
- Click “Add to Menu”.
This will create a boxed area on the right hand side right at the bottom (or last position).
To move this you can left click on the box and drag & drop it where you need it in your header, this could include indenting it under an existing menu option and starting a Dropdown menu. Otherwise, use the arrow to open up the details and use the “Parent” and “Menu order” section to do the same.
Then you go down the bottom and press the blue “Save Menu” button.
…..and then we are done!
Wrap Up
Check the details on your live website and ensure both Desktop view and mobile is how you want it. You can add any number of Custom Links to your header menu, but I think you should keep it simple and only add the important call to actions.
